The BRATs Experience

I was away for the BRATs Malacca 2011 journalism workshop from September 1 to September 4. This program is run by The Star Publications’ RAGE team. While at BRATs, I had the opportunity to visit a confectionery shop and a 75-year old printing press on Jonker Street, Malacca. For pictures of my team members, visit Senior BRAT Amy Lim’s website at

My BRATs team, Captain BRATs, visited Mei Zhong Yuan Confectionery SDN. BHD. This shop primarily sells mooncakes and its specialty, lotus paste biscuits (above).

  1. You’re so lucky to have the opportunity to visit a confectionery shop πŸ˜€ So that’s how the yolks look like altogether… and the dough! And the royal press looks interesting too! πŸ˜€

    • At least now I know where to find good mooncakes and lotus paste biscuits! I wanted to visit the Portuguese settlement, but The Royal Press is pretty cool.

  2. Why din write about me? *sad*

  3. Hi Evangeline,

What a brilliant post! Thank you so much for sharing it and all of the wonderful pictures — I felt like I was on a min vacation and enjoyed it very, very much. πŸ™‚

  4. That is very, very cool! Lotus paste biscuits? I never heard of them and only recently found that lotus was edible…not a normal American food. That is very exciting, I hope you had a really great time!
